So what’s We Rep STEM about, anyway?

My name is Cheryl and for now, I’m the only person who controls all the @WeRepSTEM accounts and site content.
I created We Rep STEM because I believe science is for everyone and I want to celebrate everyone in the field — NOT just the loudest people in the room.
This website aims to celebrate STEM minorites — people of colour, professionals with disabilites, members of the LGBTQ community, Indigenous researchers, women of all races, scientists in niche areas of expertise — and everyone in between.
I’m also aiming to expose the public to new areas of study and cover news stories that academics may find of interest.
As a team-of-one, I do all of the:
… And more. Right now, I spend about 20 hours a week on the site, in my ‘spare’ time. I maintain a full-time job so that I have the means to do this.
It is my dream to one day work on werepstem.com full time. I have lots of ideas and would love to assemble a team of writers, editors, and designers that represent every demographic I am trying to reach.
That’s a long-term goal.
Right now, the site only generates a couple of dollars a month in ad revenue, and I have spent hundreds on video and photo software + website maintenance.
