My name is Cheryl and for now, I’m the only person who controls all the @WeRepSTEM accounts and site content.

I created We Rep STEM because I believe science is for everyone and I want to celebrate everyone in the field — NOT just the loudest people in the room.

This website aims to celebrate STEM minorites — people of colour, professionals with disabilites, members of the LGBTQ community, Indigenous researchers, women of all races, scientists in niche areas of expertise — and everyone in between.

I’m also aiming to expose the public to new areas of study and cover news stories that academics may find of interest.

WHO RUNS THIS SITE?

As a team-of-one, I do all of the:

  • Writing
  • Editing
  • Web and graphic design
  • Video editing
  • Social media marketing …

… And more. Right now, I spend about 20 hours a week on the site, in my ‘spare’ time. I maintain a full-time job so that I have the means to do this.

SUPPORT THE SITE

It is my dream to one day work on werepstem.com full time. I have lots of ideas and would love to assemble a team of writers, editors, and designers that represent every demographic I am trying to reach.

That’s a long-term goal.

Right now, the site only generates a couple of dollars a month in ad revenue, and I have spent hundreds on video and photo software + website maintenance.

If you’d like to support the site, here are a few easy things you can do:

  • Like, share content, and follow We Rep STEM on social media. I am on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and YouTube. See the top of the page for social links.
  • If you are on the site and see an ad that appeals to you, I invite you to click on it. That’s the only way the site generates any money for now.
  • Donate by clicking on this handy button:

If you’d like to get involved in another way, email me at: werepstem@gmail.com.

We Rep STEM is a collaborative effort. I’d love to talk to you about your research, work on a series with you, or feature you on the site.

Thanks and happy reading!
