July 5: Meet some of the many faces of #LGBTQSTEMDay

Friday, July 5 is LGBTQ STEM Day, an initiative launched to celebrate the contributions the LGBTQ+ community has made in science, technology, engineering and math.
“LGBTQ+ people in science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) continue to struggle to openly be themselves,” reads a statement on the Pride In Stem website.
“We believe that a day of recognition goes a long way in helping raise awareness and increase support. It is an important component of the global push to increase diversity and inclusion in STEM.”
Here are a few faces behind the movement, courtesy of Twitter. You can also click here to check out the official hashtag.

It’s #LGBTQSTEMDay & whilst a lot has changed since the appalling treatment of Alan Turing, I still find myself saying that I am one of the lucky ones for being able to be #outinSTEM. Still more progress to be made & education is key: https://t.co/ZmRFxVCvjZ #LGBTSTEMday pic.twitter.com/i5RW7AY1bl

It’s the anniversary of the birth of #BiInSci!
Sometimes I date guys. Sometimes I date girls. Most of the time lately I am having hard conversations and advocating for more comfortable/ accessible spaces for marginalized individuals within physics departments!!
