RISE is the result of a year of planning and discussion and will spend the fall semester focusing on racial justice in academic biology, explored through seminars led by education scholars. There will also be listening sessions where BIPOC students can share their experiences.
During the 48 hour event, participants will form virtual teams across the globe and access NASA's Earth observation data to develop solutions to real problems on Earth and in space.
The university says it hopes the scholarship will help add "much-needed" diversity to the STEM workforce by recruiting and developing traditionally underrepresented students.
